In order to mark Mental Health Awareness Week 2018 we are sharing some stories from our singers in regard to how being a member of the choir has a positive impact on their health.

Here is Pamela’s Story:

“Joining this choir came along at a very poignant time for me. In fact, it saved me from one of the lowest points in my life. Barely three months out of my last operation for the treatment for breast cancer I moved countries and arrived in London, Kensington. I didn’t know anyone nearby  -so I decided that I needed to get some therapy for myself. I found information on the website of a local choir (lovely Kensington Singers) and came along…It was perfect. Singing is such an emotional and cathartic outlet. It allowed me to indulge myself in something purely for me for  a couple of hours…to forget about the stresses of life and more importantly to feel alive and part of a community. I have made some great friendships from people I have met though the choir. We have a common interest and music is our therapy. It is key to our mental wellbeing and it is irreplaceable.”
