Meet Roseanna, our Musical Director
Roseanna is a choir director, music teacher, workshop facilitator and vocalist working in London. She is also a visiting coach for multiple choirs, focusing on vocal technique and ensemble development. Originally from Cumbria, Roseanna studied at York (BA Music) and Guildhall School of Music and Drama (MMus Historical Performance – Voice) and has sung in a great variety of ensembles in venues such as Barbican, Royal Albert Hall, National Portrait Gallery, Sam Wanamaker Theatre and at Latitude Festival. Lockdown successes include running online song-writing and recording sessions for LGBT+ refugee and asylum seeker organisations. Roseanna absolutely loves choral music and can’t wait to begin working with Kensington Singers.
Hannah Brine, our Founder and Artistic Director
A few words from Hannah, who founded Kensington Singers in 2011 and conducted it until December 2021:
Kensington Singers is the first choir I started in London, having moved down from Leicester where I established a similar choir, Fosse Singers, back in 2007. Alongside leading community choirs and office choirs for companies such as ITV and Rothschild, I teach singing and am a singer-songwriter. In 2017 I joined the singing faculty teaching at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts. I was extremely honoured in 2015 to be named a BBC Unsung Hero for my work with community choirs, as its something I really love to do.
Kensington Singers have done some very exciting singing things, including members of the choir joining with another of my choirs, Victoria Park Singers, to sing at the Royal Albert Hall for the BBC Proms, on September 8th – performing John Luther Adams piece ‘In the Name Of the Earth’ – a huge piece for 700 voices! Members of the choir have also performed at the Olivier Awards, at the Royal Variety Show and on a BBC TV advert with Gary Lineker!
I have studied with the Association of British Choral Conductors and in 2014 I received my LRSM in Musical Directing with a distinction. You can read more about my work here. I am in my third year of the Estill Master Trainer, studying with Anne Marie Speed, so I’m fascinated with what’s happening inside our larynx… and all that geeky stuff! I love to help people to improve their voices!
I have loved working with Kensington Singers over the past 10 years, and I treasure all the happy memories and friendship. I’m looking forward to seeing the choir grow and develop under Roseanna’s direction.
